What Team Driving at American Miles Is Like

Two drivers share one truck on a 5–7 day loop across the country, then spend 2–3 days at home in California. This is how the loop runs.

Team driving means two drivers share one truck and take turns at the wheel. While one drives, the other sleeps in the sleeper berth. Because the truck rarely stops for long, freight arrives sooner and you cover more miles in a week than a solo driver can.

The loop

Our main team loop goes coast to coast and back in 5–7 days:

  • Southern California to the Pittsburgh area, about 2,450 miles
  • Pittsburgh area to Springfield, Massachusetts
  • Springfield, Massachusetts to Avondale, Arizona, about 2,640 miles
  • Avondale, Arizona back to Southern California

After every loop you get 2–3 days at home in California before the next one.

The trucks

You'll drive a 2025–2027 Volvo VNL, Freightliner Cascadia or Kenworth T680 sleeper, pulling a 53-ft dry van loaded with palletized freight.

Picking a co-driver

Apply on your own and we'll pair you with someone, or apply with a driver you already know. If you're applying as a team, each of you fills out the application separately. Mention your co-driver when recruiting calls.
