American Miles team drivers run 2025–2027 Freightliner Cascadia, Volvo VNL and Kenworth T680 sleeper tractors, all with automatic transmissions, pulling branded 53-ft dry vans. Here's what each truck is and why the fleet is set up this way.
What is the Freightliner Cascadia?
The Cascadia is Freightliner's long-haul highway tractor, designed around aerodynamics and fuel efficiency (Freightliner).

What is the Volvo VNL?
The VNL is Volvo's on-highway tractor for long-haul work, built around driver comfort and safety technology (Volvo Trucks).

What is the Kenworth T680?
The T680 is Kenworth's aerodynamic on-highway tractor for long-haul and regional work (Kenworth).

Why sleeper cabs?
Our drivers run as teams on 5–7 day loops. While one driver is at the wheel, the other rests in the sleeper berth, which is how a team keeps the truck moving within the hours-of-service rules. The sleeper is where the off-duty driver sleeps and recharges between shifts.
Why automatic transmissions?
An automatic transmission shifts on its own, so drivers aren't working a clutch through city traffic, grades and stop-and-go delays. That cuts fatigue over a long shift and makes the trucks easier for new CDL graduates to learn on.
Why does the equipment matter?
- For shippers: newer, well-kept equipment means fewer breakdowns and more on-time deliveries.
- For drivers: a comfortable truck makes a 5–7 day loop easier, and the same models across the fleet mean fewer surprises when you switch trucks.
